"God of pure and perfect love! Just as it is improper to have a relationship outside of the covenant of marriage, you despise the idolatrous and adulterous tendencies of our hearts when we rely on other people or things even as we say we are worshipping you.
Through the metaphor that you use in Ezekiel 23:1-21 of a virgin who is saved from enticement, you explain the miracle of rescuing Israel from Egypt, and you show that you detest those who chase after other things of this world instead of relying only on you. You teach us that relying on other things apart from you leads to our downfall by comparing Oholah's and Oholibah's acts to those of Samaria and Jerusalem.
I confess that I have held on to things I enjoy and lived by satisfying my lustful passions, and that I have been swayed by idols of wealth, children, health and success-all for mere momentary pleasures. I want to live a life that is fully satisfied in you and you only. As I maintain spiritual purity and fidelity, may I be able to find rest in the Lord of the greatest peace and grace. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen."
