A listing on Steam revealed that "Rise of the Tomb Raider" from development studio Square Enix will arrive for the PC in January of next year.
It is not yet clear, however, as to when the game will come out for Sony's PlayStation 4 console.
The Steam page for "Rise of the Tomb Raider" doesn't give out too much information about the game and only states that it will be available next month. The game's system requirements were also not revealed in the listing.
Although it isn't stated exactly when the game will come out Cinemablend noted that the game could come out either during the first or last week of January according to its sources. Specifically, the site reported that Square Enix might debut the PC version of the latest entry in the "Tomb Raider" reboot series on January 1 or January 29.
The game originally came out in November of this year for the Xbox One and Xbox 360 consoles. According to Microsoft, the launch of the game for its gaming systems was part of its timed exclusive deal with Square Enix. Under this agreement, owners of the Xbox consoles will be the first ones to play "Rise of the Tomb Raider."
Of course, when news of this partnership came out, a lot of gamers, especially PC and PlayStation 4 owners, got worried because they thought they won't be able to play the game on their chosen platforms.
But, as explained by Phil Spencer, the head of Microsoft's Xbox division, the company's exclusivity deal with Square Enix will only take effect for a limited time. After the deal expires, the game will then debut on other platforms.
"I get the reaction I see," he told Eurogamer. "If I'm a PlayStation person all of a sudden I feel like, the franchise has gone. I didn't buy the IP. I didn't buy the studio. It's not mine.
"Obviously the deal does have a duration," he added. "I didn't buy the IP in perpetuity."
Although Spencer's statements are comforting especially for PlayStation gamers, there are no details yet regarding the launch of "Rise of the Tomb Raider" for Sony's gaming console. But, based on current details, it seems PlayStation 4 owners will still have to wait for about a year before they get to see the game since the title is not schedule to arrive for the console until the fourth quarter of 2016.
