‘Tom Clancy’s The Division’ Updates & Gameplay: Devs Explain Why ‘The Division’ will Not Feature Brooklyn at Launch

Developer Ubisoft has confirmed that the upcoming game "Tom Clancy's The Division" will be set in one borough of New York City.

The studio noted that the launch version of the game will not include Brooklyn, which is the primary setting of the game's demo and trailer, according to Gamespot.

The story of "The Division" takes place in an open-world digital version of New York. As its plot goes, a pandemic that broke out on a Black Friday event caused the entire country to collapse. This caused the President of the United States to activate the operators of the Strategic Homeland Division, or the Division for short, to restore some form of order in the chaotic regions of the country.

Ubisoft unveiled the first footages for the game in 2013 during the E3 event. Based on the clip, a lot of gamers assumed that "The Division" will be set in Brooklyn and New York City's other boroughs.

But, recently, the studio noted that the final version of the game will only feature Midtown Manhattan.

"For 'Tom Clancy's The Division' we are going with Midtown Manhattan," the game's director Magnus Jansen told the Examiner. "It is because of the 1 to 1 recreation and the way the pandemic has [happened]. Basically, everything has been hot and there are no more resources because everyone tried to get out."

"With the level of detail we have done, doing Midtown Manhattan is a huge open-world experience and more than enough to sink your teeth into," he added. "It is a very sizeable open-world game."

Despite carrying an open-world environment, the announcement regarding the absence of the other boroughs at launch disappointed a lot of gamers. But, Ubisoft assured that this will only be for the main version of the game.

Eventually, more maps or boroughs such as Brooklyn, Staten Island, Queens or The Bronx could be added to the game as content updates.

"The possibility is still there that one or more of the other four boroughs of NYC could be added through either the Season Pass r a DLC, however if the game world offers that density of missions and verticality we have seen in the latest videos, there will be more than enough things to explore," the studio noted in the game's website.

"Tom Clancy's The Division" is set to come out on March 8 of this year and will be available for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and Microsoft Windows platform.
