Zayn Malik has made history as the first UK male to make it to the top of the charts in both his home country and in US, with his debut album.

He took number 1 spot on Billboard 200 charts with "Mind of Mine" in the very first week of its release.

In 1988, George Michael earned the top position with his album "Faith," after leaving Wham!, but that did not happen in his very first week, according to BBC.

The "Mind of Mine" has already streamed more than 157,000 times during the first week of its release in the United States, the Nielsen Music reported.

Zayn's fans were aghast when he left his band 'One Direction' last year.

The album has reached No. 1 spot in 83 countries on iTunes.

"I want to thank all the fans and my team at RCA and First Access Entertainment for everything they have done to help me start my journey as a solo artist," said Zayn last week.

Zayn performed his latest single "Like I Would," at the iHeartRadio Awards 2016 in California.

The no. 1 status is not new for Zayn, who had been at the top position many times with his former boyband 1D.

1 D was also the first UK group to have their first album reach no.1 position in United States.

The next top five spots in US go to K. Michelle's "More Issues Than Vogue," followed by Rihanna's "ANTI," Justin Bieber's "Purpose," and Adele's "25."
