Tens of thousands of young people have gathered at the Georgia Dome starting Monday for the annual Passion Conference, which focuses on inspiring young people to live for Jesus. About 50,000 are expected to attend the conference, which will run until Wednesday.
"Passion exists to see a generation leverage their lives for what matters most," the conference website states. "To live in such a way that their journey on earth counts for what is most important in the end. For us at Passion, that's the fame of the One who rescues and restores, and the privilege we have to amplify His name in everything we do."
The conference, which first began in 1995, has been geared toward young people from the ages of 18 to 25, but this year, the event's night sessions were opened up to "alumni' of the conference and adults older than 25. Livestreaming has also been made available through the Passion phone app and online.
Louie Giglio, the founder of the Passion Conference, John Piper, Francis Chan, and Christine Caine are among the speakers of this year's conference, and performances by Chris Tomlin, Crowder, Matt Redman, and Hillsong United will also be featured during the event. Singer Carrie Underwood also made a surprise appearance during the first night of the conference.
This year's conference will also continue the tradition of giving back, as attendees have done over the years. Organizers have encouraged attendees to give financially to The END IT Movement to help combat human trafficking, and to donate new socks and towels to give to those who are homeless.
